Donald Trump's System of Punishment and Favor

Donald Trump's voracious appetite for revenge has quickly transformed into a methodical framework. Within the twelve months, the chief executive's fury and caprices have taken on the form of administrative measures in ways reminiscent to past dictatorial governments. Federal officials who resist his demands are summarily removed and substituted by devotees. Political leaders who question him risk legal action, judicial process and punishment. Opponents have been designated under presidential memoranda as “anti-American”, “anti-Christian” and “anti-capitalist”, and warned with legal action as “extremists”.

The Justice System Transformed

Each situation involving legal action of critics and protection for loyalists exhibits its own unique characteristics. Yet, regardless of their individual character, they represent examples of what has emerged as a systematic approach. Those incidents are far from isolated. His removal of Department of Justice prosecutors and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, coupled with his placement of supporters in senior positions, started quickly, promptly assumed a consistency, and has now been formed into a regime. Federal prosecutors and the law enforcement agency have been restructured into political organizations under his direct command to execute his wishes. Unfairness has been made routine. It represents the system of punishment.

Administration is more concerned with targeting the leader's supposed adversaries than they are with defending our country's safety.

Internal the Apparatus

The foundation of this mechanism has been revealed in the court filing of three former senior Federal Bureau executives lodged in late summer in the judicial system in the capital against agency head Kash Patel and justice department head Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of payback against Plaintiffs for what the accused judged to be a inability to exhibit proper allegiance”. In the complaint that a former acting director, the ex- interim leader, recounts a discussion in which the director “openly admitted the unlawfulness of his conduct”.

Driscoll had attempted to protect agency personnel from being terminated, the filing states. Patel advised him that “administration officials” – understood by Driscoll to be the executive branch and justice department – had instructed him to fire everyone who they identified as having worked on a legal probe against the president. The complaint continues: “The director clarified that he had to dismiss the people his superiors told him to remove, because his capacity to hold his own role depended on the ouster of the personnel who handled investigations involving the leader. The director explained that there was no way he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other terminations, because ‘the bureau sought to put the President in prison and he hasn't forgotten it.’” After he told Patel he was breaking the bureau's own regulations, the director allegedly said “he recognized that and he realized the essence of the immediate dismissals were likely improper”.

Broad Impact

Since Patel's alleged confession to the official, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been weakened and reorganized for his revenge apparatus. Multiple of the bureau's top officials were dismissed or forced out in the early weeks of the administration. Approximately 4,500 legal professionals at the justice department have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. No fewer than seven federal prosecutors, including those in the New York office, stepped down in objection over what they viewed as political interference in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the local official, a political figure, in return for his assistance with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement detentions of migrants. The anti-corruption unit of the justice department, which manages corruption cases, has been diminished to minimal staff. The equality section has been severely reduced: 70% of its employees has left. One-third of executives at the department have quit. The unit upholding conservation statutes has lost 50% its supervisors.

Incentives and Punishments

Regarding the Adams case, the temporary lawyer for the southern district of New York, the official, quit in dissent against what she described as the “trade-off”. A key figure, Trump's “border czar,” appeared as the implementer with the mayor on television to announce: “If he doesn't come through, I'll be back in New York City.”. Meanwhile, Emil Bove, previously the justice department figure and a ex-lawyer, who negotiated the agreement, was given an judicial position, a possible springboard to the judicial branch.

His immunity for crimes committed while in power, awarded by the extraordinary judgment of the conservative on the highest court, thus preventing his criminal case over the political violence and maintaining his political viability for the national vote, is the basis on which he relies to shield his stalwarts. Given this protection, he has been freed to enable misconduct. The effect of the supreme court decision saturates his presidency and the GOP completely. Trump v United States has spread. In the words of a past leader's administration lawyer the figure commented about the Watergate
